The start of every week, Monday is always output focused. We need to turn up for work, regardless it is for an appointment at client's or at your own desk crank out the works with the deadlines looming. On this jam-packed day, both your boss and colleagues are expecting you to be on output mode. My last Monday was considered bearable, putting aside that the traffic was unexpectedly bad when driving myself to work.
Then the next day, I failed to keep myself from getting overbooked. All of a sudden, there's a lot going on at work, friends want to meet up and I actually volunteered to help out on the studio event. OK, before this gets fun, it also gets a little challenging. I wanted a productive week but also not scarifying things I enjoy doing. Since it was only the second day of week and I was working on a very tight agenda. I decided to cancel at least one item on the list. I pushed a dinner date out a few weeks time and it actually made me feel like I'm more in control of my schedule. I attended to classes as usual and stayed up for a bit in order to get some preparations done.
So here come the mid of week, I was thinking maybe I would be able to squeeze some time to see the love one at least once this week, maybe. So I rearranged my packed schedule and see if we could have a mutual spare time for a quick meet up. I was able to finish my work half an hour before six, sort out my inbox and tidy my work desk a little. It was sharp six by the time I finished my to-do-list for next day and I was ready to escape the office. Well, I still left the office on time but also spent another two hours picking brother from his uni. Did I mention how much I hate driving? like, I. really. hate. driving. It was a long day for me. OH, happy mid-autumn festival people! Hope you all ate a lot of moon-cake!
Thursday was pretty occupied even Boss was not in for the whole day. Rushed to studio straight after working and I ain't got time for dinner. Though I have been longing life to be quite like this, it comes way earlier. Having interest other than the work means that you have to manage your time properly. You need to ditch the office even there's still work to do. I understand we all get the late nights occasionally when you are working on a big project and find yourself running out of time, deadlines are approaching. For me, staying up late at the office for a valid reason is fine. But don't ever prioritise your work over yourself, I remember promising myself on the first day of work that I will and I want to keep myself on track. There is something I work for purpose, not paycheck.
The work-life balance concept seems simple, but it actually takes a little effort to maintain. Being responsible and accountable to your work does not necessary mean you are obliged to commit every pieces of you. Ignore your boss when it is time, and of course you could ignore other things apart from work because it brings you what need the most to sustain a life - money. But if your ignorance would not secure you a good life why would you want to do that then? Don't give up on the 'foods for soul', I know it might be hard, but I promise, it’ll be worth it. I can relate to this so much despite only working for six weeks. Make time for something that you are really into, look after yourself, and most importantly, spend time with the love ones. If you don't have time to see the love ones, you don't have time to make new friends for coffee.
It was the last working day! and I knew it was not going to be an easy day, I got home at half 2 in the morning. I hate group meeting so much, and what makes it worse is that Boss keeps delegating tasks throughout the meeting. Basically, you must be very good at multi-tasking when working at a law firm with a Chinese Boss that has million of things that run in his mind at the same time. He doesn't take "No" as an answer and require immediate respond most of the time. I think all the bosses share similar characteristics though, and I would consider him a not-too-bad boss.
Alright, I think that's it for now. It is time to get ready for the hectic week of work ahead. :)
loves,
